A Message from Our Senior Pastor

A week or so ago we had about two or three days in which it just rained continuously.  Growing up out east I’m accustomed to the rain, but two or three days of steady rain is an incredibly unusual phenomenon in the dry and arid climate of Colorado.

I couldn’t help but noticing the positive effects that the rain had on all around me.  All the yuck of winter was washed away, the dirty remnants of snow; the dried and brittle leaves that had collected in drainage ditches; the salt and sand that had been applied to roads; all of that ugly stuff was washed away in the rain and in its place was a clean, green ocean of revived grass and budding trees!

God used the rain to do a refreshing and replenishing work on nature.  As I looked and saw what God had done to the lawn I couldn’t help but think about how God does the same thing in our lives.  The prophet Ezekiel, when speaking on behalf of God, wrote, “I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.” (Ez. 34:26)

Wow, that’s what I want … that’s what I need … showers of God’s blessing!  I need the yuck of my winter to be washed away.  I need the areas of my life that have gone dormant to be woken up.  I need what Daniel Whittle wrote about in 1883 when he wrote,

There shall be showers of blessing:

This is the promise of love;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

Sent from the Savior above.

Showers of blessing,

Showers of blessing we need:

Mercy drops round us are falling,

But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing:

Oh, that today they might fall,

Now as to God we’re confessing,

Now as on Jesus we call!

How about you?  Are you ready for some rain in your life?  Are you ready for God to pour out His “showers of blessing” on you?

Oh God, let it rain!
